What started out as an ordinary day at a south Florida high school ended in gunfire and death in Parkland, Florida - about 20 miles northwest of Fort Lauderdale at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School attended by about three thousand students. The Broward County sheriff reports multiple deaths. The exact number is not known yet. At least 14 victims were taken to the hospital and a suspect was taken into custody a few miles from the scene. At least 17 people were killed Wednesday in a high school shooting in Parkland, Florida, Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel said. The suspect, 19-year-old former student Nikolas Cruz, is in custody, the sheriff said. The sheriff said he was expelled for unspecified disciplinary reasons.
