Reposting this clip that was removed a year ago by the International Olympic Committee for copyright violation (these days, the IOC will file a copyright claim and allow clips to remain on YouTube, and just monetize them). Hamar, NORWAY - 1994 Winter Olympic Games, Figure Skating, Ladies' Figure Skating - Nancy Kerrigan of the United States skated to a medley of Neil Diamond songs in a skating dress that was made specifically for her by Vera Wang. With all those jewels and sequins, the dress was reported to be worth over $14,000US at the time.
This is an update of a previous Nathan Chen video. Olympic figure skating is a brutal sport, and the most difficult jump, popularized by young phenom Nathan Chen, has become extremely controversial. For many fans, the quadruple jump has come to represent the death of artistry and the rise of risky and sometimes dangerous athleticism within men's figure skating. In the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympic games, we can almost certainly expect to see a lot of falls and possibly injuries due to the difficulty of these jumps. But a trio of demanding corporate clients listening in on the recording session have other ideas, offering criticism at nearly every line. At this year's Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, we may see quad corks in Big Air Snowboarding or in Freestyle Skiing -- and we'll see quad twists and quad jumps in Figure Skating. But have we reached the limit of what's possible? To do a quad, a skater's got less than a second to turn their body four times in the air.
