Massive wildfires are tearing through parts of California, destroying hundreds of buildings and forcing thousands of people from their homes. The Camp Fire in Northern California exploded in size Thursday, overtaking the town of Paradise where around 30,000 people were forced to evacuate last minute. David Begnaud reports.

Residents flee 'catastrophic' wildfire in Northern California

In Northern California, the town of Paradise has been ravaged by a fast-moving wildfire. Officials say a campfire started the blaze, which has grown to cover more than 70,000 acres and destroyed buildings and cars in its path. Father and son drive into a wildfire

A father and son had a miraculous escape from a wildfire in Glacier National Park in Montana on August 12, when they were forced to drive through the flames, dodging debris and enduring an increasingly hot car. A fast-moving wildfire that ravaged a Northern California town Thursday sent residents racing to escape on roads that turned into tunnels of fire as thick smoke darkened the daytime sky. Several thousand buildings were destroyed by flames, a California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection official said. “We were surrounded by fire, we were driving through fire on each side of the road,” said police officer Mark Bass, who lives in the hard-hit town of Paradise, where harrowing tales of escape and heroic rescues emerged after the entire community of 27,000 was ordered to evacuate.
