60 Minutes first went to air on February 11, 1979, under executive producer Gerald Stone and with reporters Ray Martin, George Negus and Ian Leslie. Today, 60 Minutes is Australia’s leading current affairs program with a proven record of excellence over three decades. Liz Hayes, Allison Langdon, Tara Brown, Ross Coulthart, Charles Wooley and Liam Bartlett investigate, analyse and uncover the issues affecting all Australians.

Video description
Aviation experts frequently remind us that flying on modern jet planes is the safest form of transport. However those assertions are meaningless while the fate of Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 remains unknown. It’s more than two years since the Boeing 777 disappeared off the face of the earth. An exhaustive and expensive search in the southern Indian Ocean has failed to turn up anything. It’s due to end soon, which has further distressed the grieving families of the 239 passengers and crew who are presumed dead. Frustration at the lack of clues has led to significant reassessment about MH370, and as Ross Coulthart discovers in this 60 Minutes investigation, there’s now growing evidence that authorities have been ignoring more credible theories about what might have brought the jet down.

60 Minutes Australia: Island of horror (2017)

As far as gripping, real-life crime thrillers go, this one has everything. A mutiny, a psychopath and a brutal mass murder. It’s a 388-year-old cold case mystery that dates back to 1629 when the Dutch sailing ship, Batavia, struck a tiny atoll off the West Australian coast near Geraldton. Almost 300 passengers and crew survived the shipwreck but over the next few months, as they waited to be rescued, more than 100 were slaughtered. For centuries their bodies lay buried, the story forgotten. But now the search for the truth about Australia’s greatest mass murder is underway as archaeologists from...

With its harsh, windswept hills and six-month long winter, the remote Faroe Islands are hardly where you would expect a large ethnic minority from tropical South East Asia. But since most local young women choose to move abroad, women from the Philippines and Thailand are helping to reverse the population decline of this tight-knit, traditional society. Nestled between Norway and Iceland in the north Atlantic, life on this archipelago of 18 islands is a shock for those from the tropics. Yet this remote community is proving that it’s worth going to the far reaches of the earth to look...

Congo’s trucks (full documentary)

Five times bigger than France, third largest country in Africa, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is, foremost, one of the world’s richest countries in raw materials. The History of Egypt's Aswan Dam documentary

In 1954, Gamal Abdel Nasser, the Arab Republic of Egypt's first prime minister, had a plan to bring his poor country into the 20th century. To pull it off, he needed to harness the flow of the world's longest river--the Nile. The Aswan Dam, or more specifically since the 1960s, the Aswan High Dam, is an embankment dam built across the Nile in Aswan, Egypt, between 1960 and 1970. Its significance largely eclipsed the previous Aswan Low Dam initially completed in 1902 downstream. Based on the success of the Low Dam, then at its maximum utilization, construction of the High Dam...
