Drones Sacrificed for Spectacular Volcano Video | National Geographic

Video technology and science converge on an active volcano in Vanuatu, where explorer Sam Cossman operated camera-mounted drones to capture high-definition images of the spectacular yet dangerous Marum Crater. Cossman and his team piloted the drones over the 7.5-mile-wide (12-kilometer) caldera while confronting toxic gases and boiling lava. Although two drones succumbed to the harsh environment, the team was able to bring back video and photos that will help scientists learn more about the volcano and the life around it. ➡ Subscribe: http://bit.ly/NatGeoSubscribe About National Geographic: National Geographic is the world's premium destination for science, exploration, and adventure. HUGE STREAM OF LAVA IN HAWAII (JUNE 29, 2018)

A huge stream of lava in Hawaii 2018. The lava river is still pumping tons of lava down to the ocean entry. The Channelized rivers are stable today and a few breakouts or breaches along the 8-10 mile river system. Fissure 8 is still the dominant fissure at this time with intermittent spatter of lava coming from fissure 22. The ocean entry is still the same. 1.6 miles wide at the entry point. Still so much lava being pushed out at fissure 8 and the volume has not dropped at all. Rivers of molten lava high up Pulama Pali - Kilauea Volcano Hawaii

A surge of lava spews out of a rupture in the lava tube system and is heading down steep cliffs, or pali in Hawaiian. This strong flow is being supplied lava from Kilauea Volcano's Pu`u O`o Crater four miles to the northwest. The rupture was at the 1600-foot elevation about four miles northwest of Kalapana Gardens, and directly above the old Royal Gardens subdivision. Further down the mountain I shot the rough a`a lava and chunky pahoehoe lava river, and at the 800-ft elevation I videoed the lava 'toes'.
