Drones Sacrificed for Spectacular Volcano Video | National Geographic

Video technology and science converge on an active volcano in Vanuatu, where explorer Sam Cossman operated camera-mounted drones to capture high-definition images of the spectacular yet dangerous Marum Crater. Cossman and his team piloted the drones over the 7.5-mile-wide (12-kilometer) caldera while confronting toxic gases and boiling lava. Although two drones succumbed to the harsh environment, the team was able to bring back video and photos that will help scientists learn more about the volcano and the life around it. ➡ Subscribe: http://bit.ly/NatGeoSubscribe About National Geographic: National Geographic is the world's premium destination for science, exploration, and adventure. Hawaii's Kilauea Volcano - Behind the News

There have been some pretty amazing pictures from the island of Hawaii. A volcano there, named Kilauea, has been erupting and spewing out rivers of lava which have destroyed homes and cars. It's pretty scary stuff from a distance, so imagine what it's like for the people who live there. We caught up with some Hawaiian locals and found out more about their fiery mountain. Lava Burns White Shelterpod In Kilauea

This shelterpod was owned, designed and built by Mr. Paddy Daly who lives in Bellyacres Eco-village adjacent to Seaview Estates. Paddy was welcomed in to Bellyacres as family would be when the lava flows inundated the area in early 2008 and made it impractical (and illegal) for him to continue living in his private property. The shelterpod was built on lava flows from the 80's or early 90's about 1000 feet from the coast. It was a unique design consisting of a small living pod resting on a large deck. It had an electrical system consisting of a solar panel, storage...

Hawaii Island Volcanoes

The island of Hawaii is built from five separate shield volcanoes that erupted somewhat sequentially, one overlapping the other. These volcanoes are: Kīlauea, Mauna Loa, Hualālai, Mauna Kea and Kohala. Kīlauea is a currently active shield volcano in the Hawaiian Islands, and the most active of the five volcanoes. It has been erupting nearly continuously since 1983 and has caused considerable property damage, including the destruction of the town of Kalapana in 1990. The 2018 lower Puna eruption, which began May 3, over several weeks opened two dozen lava vents downrift from the summit in Puna. The eruption was accompanied by...
