Hawaii's Kilauea Volcano - Behind the News

There have been some pretty amazing pictures from the island of Hawaii. A volcano there, named Kilauea, has been erupting and spewing out rivers of lava which have destroyed homes and cars. It's pretty scary stuff from a distance, so imagine what it's like for the people who live there. We caught up with some Hawaiian locals and found out more about their fiery mountain. Why Hawaii's volcano is so UNUSUAL

Hawaii is known for its volcanoes, but most volcanoes on earth exist along tectonic plate lines. Hawaii does not! What causes Hawaii to form, and how is it related to the mystery of a magnetic bar code across the Pacific Ocean? Host Dianna Cowern chatted with geologist Noah Randolph-Flagg from UC Berkeley while hiking on the island of Kauai. Lava Pours Steadily From Hawaii's Kilauea Volcano

Researchers captured dramatic footage of a steady stream of lava pouring from the Kilauea volcano in Hawaii. Kilauea volcano on Hawaii's Big Island smiles as it erupts

Lava cascaded off of cliffs on Hawaii's Big Island on Wednesday (July 27), marking the first time since 2013 that one of Kilauea's lava flows reached the ocean. Lava from the volcano, located in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, began erupting in late May and has been continuously moving on a six-mile journey towards the coast. Authorities have said the lava poses no threat to any towns, but have cautioned tourists to keep their distance. Despite the warning, people could be seen near the flow, taking pictures and watching the spectacle. What are the top stories today? Kilauea volcano spews ash and lava nearly 6-miles into the sky - Daily Mail

Scientist predictions from eight days ago of powerful steam-driven explosions at Hawaii's Kilauea volcano have come true, as they say eruptions are likely to continue. Hawaii's Kilauea volcano erupted Thursday and sent ash spewing 30,000 feet into the sky before raining down on a nearby town, with residents being warned to shelter in place as the dusty plume engulfs the island. Experts say the explosive ballistic displays could go on for weeks - and they don't know when it's going to stop.  Original Article: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5743297/Hawaii-residents-warned-eruptions-coming.html Original Video: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/video/news/video-1691760/Video-Kilauea-volcano-spews-ash-lava-nearly-6-miles-sky.html Daily Mail Facebook: http://facebook.com/dailymail Daily Mail IG: http://instagram.com/dailymail Daily Mail Snap: https://www.snapchat.com/discover/Daily-Mail/8392137033 Daily Mail Twitter: http://twitter.com/MailOnline Daily Mail...

Hawaii's Volcano Eruptions Intensify as Fissures Merge to Form Massive Lava River

A massive river of lava is moving down Kilauea volcano on Hawaii’s Big Island as the ongoing eruption intensifies, forcing more people out of their homes and injuring at least one man. Hawaii County Civil Defense officials said that late Saturday night a lava flow moving at 300 feet-per-hour reached Highway 137, one of the main highways in the Puna district. A section of the road was shut down. The officials also reported that a lava flow had reached the Pacific Ocean. Lava entering the water creates laze, a type of volcanic gas that may endanger nearby residents. Read more: http://bit.ly/2IvtmWd Courtesy - USGS
